PROJECT TITLE
“Take the Challenge” a No Drugs No Gangs Event

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Artesia Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for “Take the Challenge”, a No Drugs-No Gangs event scheduled
for Saturday, March 14 and Tuesday, March 17 featuring one of Americas Next Best Dance Crew “Break Sk8”.
This event has been a tradition of kids, family and education in Artesia for the past ten years. The Artesia
Chamber Board of Directors and staff believe strongly in this tradition, its purpose and in the future of our youth as
community leaders. While partnering each year with local businesses and organizations, we are working hard to
enforce and strengthen these ideals. This year’s event will follow very similar guidelines as in past years while
sending a safe message to our youth and encouraging them to “Take the Challenge”… the challenge of a drug free,
healthy lifestyle and to reach positive goals.
Take the Challenge will be a vital resource in drug & gang prevention and help us to reach out to a group of AT RISK
kids which we would not normally be able to reach. Demonstrate various safe alternatives to drugs, alcohol and
gangs while emphasizing the importance of “taking the challenge” whether it is academically, in sports, at home
with siblings and parents or in the work place. Our goal is to present a positive message to these children and to
those adults whom they are influenced by.
Our goal is to introduce alternative and constructive activities for our youth.
Between the BMX – Skate Jam on the 14th and the assemblies and night time performance on the 17th we
anticipate reaching over 3500 students and young adults ranging from age 5 to 25 in the southeast corner of New
Mexico. Many of which who are AT Risk of becoming involved in gangs or simply making the wrong choices.
