Artesia Children’s Water Education Program

The Artesia Children’s Water Education Program will demonstrate the importance of water conservation
throughout the state. With less than 2% of the population involved in agriculture, it is more critical than ever
before to inform the public about water conservation.
This program will allow the increased knowledge of water issues in New Mexico. Drought is contributing to the
critical water issues facing the rivers in our state. Endangered species and meeting compact obligations are just a
couple of the water issues that involve all of the citizens of the state. Making headway toward positive proactive
solutions is very important.

NM Soil and Water Conservation Districts are very involved in several demonstration projects such as Salt Cedar
control and restoration of the native vegetation. Through this water education program, we can teach students
and adults about different projects and how they can contribute to water conservation.
