Brenda chose Eastern New Mexico University for its closeness to home, small class sizes, affordability and the diverse student base. She is active in the associated Students Activity Board and the ENMU Hospitality Board.

Her future goals after graduation include receiving a masters degree and to teach Math at the college level. The person making the biggest difference in her life is her mom who is a strong woman that has been supportive in the decisions that Brenda has made. Her mom has allowed her to become independent and pushed her to become the best person that she can.

Attending Eastern New Mexico University has made her a better person by seeing different cultures and customs and becoming independent relying on herself to make the right decisions. College life has helped her gain the knowledge and confidence to start her career in post secondary education and given her the opportunity to improve her communication skills in being at a smaller school.

The Chase Scholarship has meant the world to the Porras family in these financially difficult times. “Words cannot express our gratitude towards the Chase Foundation,” says Brenda, my biggest worries during high school was whether or not college would be affordable for me, but thanks to the Chase Scholarship I can now focus on things like getting good grades rather than on financial troubles.
